Renfrew gym goers are set to see a multi-million pound makeover to their newly formed JD Gym branch after the company completed a successful takeover from administrators PWC.
The Renfrew Retail park gym was subject to closure after previous owners, Exercise for Less, were forced into administration following financial struggles from the recent COVID-19 pandemic.
Thousands of customers were left fearing the worst during lockdown after the budget branch fell into administration earlier this year, however, things look to be heading in the right direction, with efforts for a whole new look to the place already underway.
Newly appointed Duty manager, Derek Forsyth, is looking forward to the changes being made and hopes it can reignite the community spirit missing during the months of lockdown.
He said: “Yeah I’m new in this gym so its been quite a good fresh start for me. I came over from the Maryhill branch and I’m looking forward to it! There are some good members in here, its been a good vibe and there’s quite a lot of energy. It’s just good to have the gyms back and be back at work!”
With Phases One and Two completed from the three phase makeover, Forsyth believes there are big changes in the coming months with phase three set to be completed as early as June.
He said: “It’s been good. Everybody’s picking it up quite quickly and it’s going to be better once the gym changes because it’s going to be a big change. Layout, equipment wise and just a higher standard basically. The reception will have a change of look, the turnstile area [ as well] and there will be a new spin studio. We’ve got a lot of space here which can be utilised elsewhere.”
Forsyth believes JD gyms comes with various benefits, improving on their predecessor.
He said: “One membership style, it’s no contract, easy to cancel, there’s no fuss and they can freeze it. At the moment the deal is £10, no joining fee and then it’s £14.99 [per month].”
